Until the answer is yes…

The Power of GirlsThe tourism community needs more women leaders willing to ask the hard questions, be prepared to look reality fearlessly and roll their sleeves up.

Please submit stories of women making a difference and showing true leadership on their web site and support the authors (Caitlin Rowe and Amy Cunningham).  Also please visit and support Equality in Tourism – an important initiative dedicated to ensuring women have an equal voice in and share of the benefits from tourism globally.

THE POWER OF GIRLS

We must never stop asking:

Are we Equal?

Just over two years ago, director Sam Taylor-Wood created a short film starring Daniel Craig as 007 and Judi Dench as M. However, this was not a stereotypical Bond tribute. The film, released to coincide with International Women’s Day, asks the infamous womanizer and secret agent whether or not he considered women to be equal to men. The video is quite effective at making the viewer question whether or not this is true and I urge you all to have a look. It is certainly an interesting and attention-grabbing way to use a popular male image and archetype to promote gender equality.

  1. I always enjoy your articles and blog posts. Thanks. I have 2 daughters and 1 son. My hope for them is that we are equal.

Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.”

It’s not good for either of us (men or women) to be in this paradigm of “inequality”. It is harmful to both genders. Women suffer more directly! Men and women both suffer indirectly!

    • Hi Tracy

Thanks for your comment – love hearing from you!

The Martin Luther quote reminds me of the meaning of the African word Ubuntu: “‘I am what I am because of who we all are’.
Having just spent 2 amazing weeks in Africa, it means even more to me because I experienced that sense of connection and reciprocity in practice.

Hope you are well and thanks for the support
      Love
      Anna

  2. Have not seen this video before, it’s incredibly clever.
The tourism community has some women who ask the hard questions and show they have huge knowledge of what is happening and how we should go into the future.
Unfortunately, egos and empires and the old boys network still seem to be thriving.
Macho-think – profit before the people and the planet.
